The Luna Dot Automatic Door Pinch Guard is designed for standard lightweight internal hinged doors commonly found in bedrooms, studies and similar rooms around the home.

Once correctly installed and activated, the guard automatically drops into position each time the door opens. It helps prevent the door from closing completely, maintaining an approximately 35 mm gap between the door and frame at the closing edge. This protective gap helps reduce the risk of little fingers becoming trapped when the door moves unexpectedly.

The front of the guard features a thickened TPR cushioning pad. When the door closes against the activated guard, the soft contact surface helps absorb impact, reduce hard contact noise and protect both the door surface and the guard.

The guard remains installed on the door, so there is no need to repeatedly attach, remove or store it. Adults can use the side control button to activate or deactivate the automatic drop function whenever required.

When the guard is not needed, such as at night, use the side button to deactivate it. The guard will remain retracted, allowing the door to open and close normally without the guard repeatedly engaging.

Door compatibility

This product is suitable only for standard lightweight internal hinged doors with a raised door frame.

When the door is fully closed, the mounting section of the door frame must project at least 20 mm beyond the face of the door. This raised edge is required for correct installation and operation.

Suitable examples may include standard internal bedroom, study and similar residential doors that meet the required measurements.

Not suitable for

• Flush or concealed doors where the door and frame sit level
• Frameless or hidden-frame doors
• Exterior or security doors
• Heavy doors
• Fire or smoke-control doors
• Self-closing or automatically closing doors
• Sliding, folding or automatic doors
• Doors on required emergency escape routes
• Any door that must remain fully closed or securely latched
• Any door frame with less than 20 mm of suitable projecting mounting space

Please measure before ordering

Close the door fully and measure how far the intended mounting edge of the frame projects beyond the face of the door.

The frame must extend at least 20 mm beyond the closed door. Do not purchase or install the guard if the frame and door sit flush or if there is insufficient mounting space.

Also check that there is enough clearance for the guard to move freely without striking nearby walls, handles, trim or other fittings.

Before installation

Adult installation only.

Install the guard high on the door, completely out of children’s reach but where an adult can safely operate the side control button.

Choose a clean, dry, smooth and securely finished mounting surface. Do not install on loose or peeling paint, wallpaper, unfinished timber, porous surfaces, delicate finishes, damaged surfaces or areas exposed to persistent moisture.

Test the adhesive on a small, inconspicuous area first. Adhesive performance and removal results may vary depending on the surface material, paint condition, finish, age and length of use.

Installation

Adult installation only.

1. Confirm that the door is a standard lightweight internal door that swings inward or outward on side hinges. Do not install on a sliding, folding, concealed, heavy, security, fire-rated or self-closing door.
2. Close the door and confirm that the frame projects at least 20 mm beyond the face of the closed door.
3. Clean and completely dry the intended installation area on the door. The surface must be smooth and free from dust, oil, moisture and cleaning residue.
4. Before installation, check that the inner and outer slots of the guard are facing the same direction. If they are not aligned, press the reset button and the mechanism will automatically return to the correct position.
5. The guard is suitable for doors with the handle on either the left or right side. With the door closed, place the installation guide on the handle side of the door, approximately one full product height above the door handle and completely out of children’s reach.
6. Make sure the positioning edge of the installation guide sits tightly against the door frame with no gap. If the door seal projects farther than the flat surface of the frame, align the guide tightly against the outermost edge of the door seal instead.
7. Once the guide is correctly positioned, carefully open the door without allowing the installation guide to move.
8. Remove the protective film from the 3M adhesive backing.
9. Fit the pinch guard fully into the installation guide, making sure it is correctly seated and facing the right direction.
10. Press the guard firmly against the door for approximately 3 seconds so that the entire adhesive surface makes full contact with the door.
11. Carefully remove the installation guide without pulling or moving the guard.
12. Check that the guard is correctly positioned and that the mechanism moves normally. Do not force or slam the door during this check.
13. Leave the adhesive undisturbed for 24 hours before regular use. Do not allow the door to press against the guard, and do not pull or place force on the product during this bonding period.
14. After 24 hours, test the guard without children nearby. Confirm that it drops correctly when activated, remains securely attached to the door and maintains an approximately 35 mm gap at the closing edge.

Do not use the guard if it moves, lifts, feels loose, contacts the frame incorrectly or fails to maintain the intended gap.

How to use

Adult operation only.

To activate the automatic drop function, use the side control button while the door is open. Confirm that the guard drops correctly into its protective position.

When activated, the guard will automatically drop into position each time the door opens. As the door begins to close, the thickened TPR cushioning pad contacts the door, helping absorb the impact and prevent the door from closing completely.

To allow the door to close normally, use the side control button to deactivate the guard. Confirm that the guard remains fully retracted before closing the door.

Deactivate the guard at night or whenever it is not required so that the door can open and close normally without the guard repeatedly engaging.

Never force or slam the door closed while the guard is activated.

Important safety information

This product is a child-resistant safety aid, not a childproof device. It helps reduce finger-trapping risks but cannot prevent every accident and is not a substitute for active adult supervision.

When properly installed and activated, the guard helps maintain an approximately 35 mm gap at the closing edge of the door. This helps prevent the door from closing directly onto little fingers placed between the closing edge and the frame.

The guard does not protect fingers placed in the hinge-side gap and does not prevent injury while the door is moving. Always keep children’s hands away from both sides of the door and its hinges.

Adult installation, activation, deactivation and removal only. Install completely out of children’s reach. Do not allow children to operate, pull, hang from or play with the guard or the door.

Before each use, check that the guard is securely attached and operates correctly. Check that the TPR cushioning pad remains securely fitted and undamaged.

Stop using the product immediately if the adhesive becomes loose or if the ABS body or TPR cushioning pad becomes cracked, detached, damaged, excessively worn or fails to operate correctly.

Strong draughts, slamming, excessive force, incorrect installation, an unsuitable door or an unsuitable mounting surface may affect performance. Do not deliberately push or slam the door against the activated guard.

WARNING: Small components may present a choking hazard if the product breaks or becomes detached.

This product is not a toy. Keep the guard and any loose, broken, removed or detached components out of reach of children.

Surface and removal information

The 3M adhesive backing is designed for clean, dry, smooth and securely finished surfaces. The cushioned TPR contact pad helps reduce direct impact on the guard during normal use, but adhesive strength must still be checked regularly.

When removed slowly and correctly, the adhesive is designed to come away cleanly from many suitable surfaces. However, adhesive performance and removal results may vary. Adhesive may leave residue or affect some painted, coated, laminated or delicate finishes.

Adult removal only. Do not pull, twist or force the product off suddenly. Remove it slowly and carefully. Stop if the surface begins to lift or show signs of damage.
